Buying Guide - E-Ox Basic Portable Oxygen Systems

"As a doc, I wish all airplanes (not just turbocharged and pressurized ones) had built-in oxygen systems. I wish oxygen refills were so cheap and easy to obtain that pilots could top off their oxygen as easily as their fuel tanks. I wish pilots felt as comfortable and casual about using supplemental oxygen in flight when they get tired or headachy as they do about sipping a Coke or a cup of coffee. I wish they'd stop believing that O2 is unnecessary at or below 12,500 feet just because the FAA doesn't mandate its use.--Dr. Brent Blue

Picking the right oxygen system doesn't have to be complicated or filled with uncertainty. We here at AeroMedix specialize in providing oxygen systems to pilots who want the protection and assurance that a supplemental oxygen system can provide without the unnecessary accessories and high cost of many other systems on the market. The Basic E-Ox systems offer quality, safety and value with various cylinder sizes to accommodate anything from emergency-only oxygen needs to almost 24 hours of continuous oxygen flow. This guide is designed to make selecting a basic oxygen system easy by just following two simple steps.

If you are interested in more capabilities including accommodating up to 4 users and offering individual flow rate control, see our Buying Guide for E-Ox Individual Flow Systems

Step 1: Choose the Number of People

Your first decision involves deciding how many people you will serve oxygen to. Keep in mind that our Basic E-Ox systems are only designed to accommodate up to 2 people at once. However, the Basic systems provide a great foundation on which to build. All of our components are able to be purchased separately which means if the need comes in the future to accommodate more than 2 people, you can easily do so by just purchasing a few additional parts. Starting out with the basic system for one person you can easily upgrade to a 1 or 2 person E-OX Oxymizer system. By upgrading to the E-OX Oxymizer system you will be adding our amazing Oxymizer Cannula. The Oxymizer can make your cylinders last 3-4 times longer, which easily pays for it self after just one refill! As such, the Basic E-Ox system with Oxymizer cannula is our most popular configuration.

  • E-Ox 1 Person Basic = mask, adjustable regulator and e-ox cylinder (choice of sizes below)
  • 1 Person E-Ox w/ Oxymizer = basic system + 1 Oxymizer cannula
  • 2 Person E-Ox w/ Oxymizer = basic system + 2 Oxymizer cannulas + "Y" connector

STEP 2 - The Cylinder

An important consideration is the size of cylinder that you will carry. We offer a variety of cylinder sizes to accommodate a wide range of oxygen service needs. Most customers find the smaller systems are more convenient to carry. However, since many oxygen providers and FBOs charge a flat service rate to fill your cylinder, regardless of it's size, your best bet is to get the largest cylinder that will fit your application. The extra cost of the larger cylinder will easily pay for itself by allowing you fly longer between cylinder fills, saving you time and money. Also, take into consideration the number of people using the system and your average flight time per trip. A larger tank will accommodate 2 people for much longer time span than a small tank.

Also note that our adjustable regulator assembly will fit all E-Ox cylinders, so you can mix and match cylinders for different purposes. Going on a short trip, get a 113L cylinder for up to 2 hours of oxygen for 2 people. Will your next flight be longer? Remove the adjustable regulator from the 113L tank and place it on a 425L cylinder for up to 7 hours of oxygen. This feature also allows you to keep a spare cylinder handy in the event you run out of oxygen mid-flight. Just unscrew the regulator and attach it to the spare cylinder and you've got a full cylinder of oxygen ready for use!

All our oxygen cylinders are aluminum with a standard CGA-540 fill valve and contents gauge. The height measurement indicated is including an adjustable E-Ox Regulator. Use the links provided in the table below to get detailed information on specific cylinders.

MORE INFO

The E-Ox Portable Oxygen System is a unique product designed to provide a convenient way to carry lifesaving supplemental oxygen with you when you're on the move. We offer a range of sizes to fit every need - from a compact, lightweight system that slips easily into your flight bag or briefcase, to a cylinder large enough to provide enough oxygen for you and your passengers for several trips. E-Ox is a flexible system and can be used with a standard oxygen mask or cannula, or in conjunction with a conserving device to extend cylinder duration. The optionalOxymizer conserving cannula offers up to 4:1 savings! Of course, no oxygen system is complete without a pulse oximeter to monitor your oxygen saturation to ensure you are getting the oxygen you need.

In the cockpit -- Use E-Ox as a source of supplemental oxygen when you need to climb above 12,500 feet to avoid high terrain or weather, or when you need to "sharpen up" at night before shooting an approach. Also perfect for emergencies such as smoke in the cockpit, loss of pressurization or ditching, where this system can provide the precious minutes you need to remain conscious while you make your way to safety. Since the Learjet crash that killed golfer Payne Stewart, many executives who travel on corporate aircraft have been carrying these units in their briefcases. (Please note that passengers may not carry filled oxygen cylinders on board a commercial flight unless it is furnished by the airline.)

In the mountains -- Supplemental oxygen is the best remedy for fatigue any time you are exerting yourself at altitude: skiing, climbing, hiking, etc. A personal oxygen system like E-Ox makes it easy to have supplemental oxygen with you anywhere and anytime. If you find yourself short of breath or suffer symptoms of altitude sickness (as almost everyone who lives near sea level does from time to time when at higher elevations), having your own personal supply of oxygen can eliminate this concern.

In an emergency -- Supplemental oxygen can also be invaluable for dealing with a wide range of exigencies: smoke or fire, auto or boat accident, first-aid crisis, etc.

E-Ox is manufactured exclusively for Aeromedix from medical-grade components. This system has been designed to be lighter and more compact -- and substantially less costly -- than anything previously available. Our exclusive click-style adjustable regulator allows you to quickly and precisely set the flow rate you desire.

All of our basic E-OX Systems start with our adjustable regulator and standard oxygen mask. Easily extend your tank duration by adding our Oxymizer Cannula for 1 or 2 place systems.

The adjustable regulator connects directly to the standard CGA-540 fill valve on the oxygen cylinder and allows you to adjust your flowrate with a simple twist on the click wheel adjuster. This great adjustable regulator will allow a flow rate as low as 1/2 liter per minute up to 4 liters per minute.

The standard oxygen mask comes with approx. 6ft of tubing to make it easy to stow your E-OX system behind or under the pilot or co-pilot seat.
