INFO

"After researching the subject rather extensively, I've concluded that there's basically no contest. The only currently available low-cost CO detector I'd trust in my airplane is the CO Experts Model 1070 Low-Level CO Monitor. It employs by far the best technology available, and appears to be built to "aircraft quality" standards. It offers five years or more of the most reliable and sensitive CO protection available for about $20 a year. This is actually cheaper by far than those el-cheapo cardboard spot detectors that are only slightly better than worthless."

"At present, the only viable challenger appears to be the Kidde Nighthawk 900-0089, which is far better known but not nearly as good. I consider this unit adequate for residential use, but I honestly can't recommend it for aircraft or vehicle use where it's exposed to vibration, because it's just not built to take it. The Nighthawk is also blind to CO concentrations below 30 PPM, while the CO Experts starts to display at 5 PPM and provides a low-level alarm at 10 PPM." - Mike Busch (read the rest of the article)

Aviation Consumer tested the CO Experts 1070 (previous model) and rated it for Top Value for Accurate, Low-Level CO readings.

The CO Experts "Health" Monitor model 1070 is the most sensitive CO detector you can buy and it EXCLUSIVELY sold in the aviation market by Aeromedix.com. It is also the BEST, FASTEST responding residential smoke/fire alarm in the world*. We recommend this unit for aviation, home, car/truck and other critical applications. Because of its high sensitivity and low alarm threshold, however, we do not recommend this product for use in environments where CO levels of 10 PPM or more are routinely encountered. (Nor do we recommend spending any more time in such environments than absolutely necessary!). The NEW CO Experts "Health" Monitor model 1070 now updates reading every 5 seconds and starts audible and visual alerts at 10 PPM. This low level alert bests all UL listed CO detectors by 20 PPM (UL - 2034 Listed CO alarms are required to begin alerts at 30 PPM).

The CO Experts "Health" Monitor model 1070 displays exact CO concentrations in PPM for values from 10 to 70 PPM, with display accuracy within 1 PPM. Concentrations above 70 PPM are shown as "HI." For concentrations below 10 PPM, the display remains blank. The display is updated every 5 seconds -- much more rapidly than any other CO detector we've tested -- and this is extremely helpful when troubleshooting CO problems, since you can try opening or closing vents or windows, or moving the detector from one location to another, and see the effect almost instantly on the digital readout.

Five Alarm Levels: reading levels update every 5 seconds

10-24 PPM Visual and Audible - 2 Beeps a minute
25-34 PPM Visual and Audible - 2 Beeps every 20 seconds
35-49 PPM Visual and Audible - 2 Beeps every 10 seconds
50-69 PPM Visual and Audible - 2 Beeps every 6 seconds
70-HI PPM Visual and Audible - 4 Beeps every 6 seconds

**Visual alert is a flashing red LED light, the audible alert is a 85dB horn**

Hush Feature and Memory Recall
The front-mounted button performs two functions. If pressed for 3-4 seconds while the unit is alarming, the button will silence ("hush") the alarm for a period of time that depends on the CO concentration (see table below).

10 PPM HUSH for up to 24 hours
25 PPM HUSH for up to 60 minutes
35 PPM HUSH for up to 60 minutes
50 PPM HUSH for up to 60 minutes
70 PPM HUSH for up to 4 minutes

At other times, the button activates a memory recall (peak level, how long ago, duration, and COHb%) and a self-test (red LED and horn). Pressing and holding the button for more than 6 seconds clears the memory.

An extensive "fail-safe" design monitors the sensor, electronics and battery. Any detected failure results in a single "chirp" of the audible alarm and a single flash of the red LED once a minute, with the error condition indicated on the LCD display. Possible indications are "BAT" for low-battery, "ERR" for a failure of the electronics, and "SENSOR END" for a sensor failure (or end-of-life).

The CO sensor should last for several years under normal conditions. Because of its extreme sensitivity and accuracy, the standard manufacturer's warranty on this unit is only one year.

Aviation Consumer tested the CO Experts 1070 (the previous model) and rated it for Top Value for Accurate, Low-Level CO readings.

"The CO Experts Model 1070 consistently alarmed according to its manufacturers specs, which are in line with how we expect a cockpit CO detector to function."

*All fires produce CO. This monitor will detect the presence of CO at 10PPM within 5 seconds and will alarm far faster than any other product ever offered in the history of residential detection.

OTHER INFO and FEEDBACK

CO Expert Owners Manual

IMPORTANT NOTE: We recommend that any CO detector (including the CO Experts & Pocket CO models we sell) should not be left for any extended period of time in aircraft that are not hangared or vehicles that are not garaged. The interior temperatures of closed aircraft or motor vehicles left out in the sun can easily reach 120°F or more, and such temperatures can result in accelerated evaporation of the electrolyte in electrochemical CO sensors and premature failure of the detector. A few days now and then is no problem, but if the aircraft or vehicle is to be stored out of doors for a week or more, the detector should be removed and kept in a more temperate location. Because of its larger-capacity sensor, the CO Experts Model 1070 can tolerate more abuse than most CO detectors, but ultimately its sensor life will be shortened by prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Cold temperatures generally have no adverse effect on these units.

Purchase your carbon monoxide monitor risk-free! Like everything else sold by Aeromedix.com, our low-level CO monitors are sold with an unconditional 30-day return privilege.
