INFO
The Nonin "FlightStat" is the first pulse oximeter small and inexpensive enough for practical use in the cockpit. It's a tiny, pocket-sized unit not much bigger than your thumb. Two AAA alkaline batteries provide power for about 18 hours of continuous operation or 1,600 spot checks. (In inactive storage, the battery is depleted after about 9 months.) The FlightStat comes complete with a lanyard, carrying case, batteries and instruction manual. This unit is designed for aviation use, but is also perfect for climbers, hikers, skiers, and athletes who want to monitor their blood oxygenation during high-altitude activity. The Nonin FlightStat pulse oximeter comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty, and is sold by Aeromedix.com with an unconditional 30-day return privilege.
"Based on our recent in-flight testing and research, Dr. Brent Blue and I have come to the conclusion that the use of a pulse oximeter in the cockpit is an essential safety measure for any pilot who flies at cabin altitudes of 10,000 feet and above. We also believe oximeter use is prudent -- regardless of cruising altitude -- for any pilot who smokes, flies with a cold or cough, or suffers from any other respiratory condition. In short, we think that most pilots would be wise to carry a pulse oximeter in their flight bag." - Mike Busch (read the rest of the article)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The FlightStat is a non-prescription pulse oximeter, and is not FDA-approved for medical use. Pulse oximeters are also ideal for monitoring home O2 use for lung- and heart-disease patients receiving oxygen therapy. Nonin also offers two very similar self-contained finger pulse oximeters called the Model 9500 "Onyx" and Model 9550 "Onyx II" which is FDA-approved for medical use and sold by prescription only. Aeromedix.com is authorized to sell the FlightStat without prescription for aviation and other non-medical uses. For medical use (including home healthcare), we offer the Model 9500 “Onyx”, Model 9550 "Onyx II" and several other prescription-only Oximeter models through our pharmacy site AeromedixRx.com. If your treating physician prescribes one of these monitors, the cost is usually eligible for medical insurance reimbursement.
