The model CO Experts 2016 has been replaced by the updated model CO Experts ULTRA!

The CO Experts Low Level Carbon Monoxide Monitor model ULTRA is the most sensitive CO detector you can buy and it is sold in the private aviation market ONLY by Aeromedix.com!  Be safe – Monitor the CO level in your airplane, home, hangar, boat or vehicle!  Protect your loved ones from the effects of low level CO poisoning at home!

What is the difference between the CO Experts 2016 and the CO Experts ULTRA?

This new low-level CO “Health” monitor provides exactly the same features as the CO Experts 2016 except it utilizes a small, round housing (2.5 inches diameter and 1.5 inches deep) and has two AAA replaceable batteries.  Thanks to the extremely low power consumption design and components, these batteries could last up to 3 to 5 years if audible alarms are kept to a minimum.

Both Models have exactly the same warning levels and audible alarm levels.  Neither require the user to push a button to view the current levels of Carbon Monoxide under 70PPM.  They both include a fully automatic “Silence” feature after four minutes, if you have been unable to manually push the Silence button sooner, the automatic “Silence / Silence over-rides” feature will be employed and all CO Levels & periods of “Silence” remain the same as in the Model 2016 regardless if employed manually or automatically.

Low Level Readings, Accuracy and Durability All in One Package
CO – Experts Low Level CO “Health” Monitors are the only CO detection products that give you IMMEDIATE warnings at 5, 10, 25, 35, 50PPM, all in REAL Time. By using the largest-volume and longest-life electrochemical sensor on the market, the CO Experts ULTRA offers you unparalleled protection against Carbon Monoxide poisoning. This means that you will know about CO levels down to 1 parts per million and be alerted to CO levels of 7 parts per million leaving you plenty of time to act before CO poisoning symptoms set in!  Compare that to other CO monitors that begin alarming at 30ppm. The CO Experts is so sensitive to Carbon Monoxide, don’t be surprised if you hear the alarm chirp while taxiing behind another aircraft!  The CO Experts Monitor is fully Self-Monitored, including Sensor Accuracy and an End-of-Life Warning. Built to last, the CO Experts model ULTRA has an expected lifetime of 5 years and comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty against defects. Terms and conditions apply.

Easy to Use
Repeated beeping of a CO or smoke alarm can be very nerve racking and frustrating. Unfortunately, some of our cities frequently experience poor air quality resulting in ambient CO levels in excess of 7PPM, which could result in a constant CO warning from your CO Experts ULTRA alarm. Therefore, simply depressing the Test / Hush / Reset button immediately after an alarm signal will SILENCE the beeping on the CO Experts ULTRA for up to 24 hours at the current CO level. As soon as CO levels rise to the next alarm level, the Monitor alarm will activate again, warning you of an increase in ambient CO levels. Should CO levels rise to 50 PPM and higher the period of SILENCE is only 4 minutes, so that you can take IMMEDIATE ACTION to get to fresh air. Best of all, the CO Experts ULTRA requires NO CALIBRATION unlike other CO detectors which require periodic maintenance, bump testing, or professional calibration.

Alarm Memory and Recall Features
Besides being accurate and easy to use, the CO Experts ULTRA has alarm memory and recall functions that will display exposure history on the LCD display. By pressing the Test/Reset button, the unit displays current CO levels, the highest CO levels encountered since the last reset, how many days/hours/minutes since the highest reading was recorded, the duration of the highest CO level recorded and the approximate percentage of oxygen that would have been displaced by CO in the human body (COHb%)! This information can be very helpful in isolating an incident during flight as well as being able to pass this information on to medical or maintenance personnel.

Built for the Home Yet Works Great Anywhere
The CO Experts ULTRA is the BEST and FASTEST responding residential smoke/fire alarm in the world*.  We have found the CO Experts to be quite suitable for aircraft use and, with it’s loud 85dB alarm, you can place it almost anywhere in the cockpit and be confident that you’ll hear the alarm when you need to. Use the CO Experts in your home to alert you of CO produced by heating systems, fireplaces and generators.  Mount the CO Experts in your boat and be warned when the engine is leaking hazardous Carbon Monoxide into the cabin.  Even truckers can use it to be sure that engine exhaust is not exposing them to harmful levels of CO.  Use the CO Experts anywhere you want to be alerted to the presence of Carbon Monoxide. Because of its high sensitivity and low alarm threshold, however, we do not recommend this product for use in environments where CO levels of 7 PPM or more are routinely encountered. (We would also recommend not spending any more time in such environments than absolutely necessary!).

Alarm Levels:

  • 10 to 34 PPM – ONE Series of four beeps ONCE every Minute (PG-2017 – 10
  • 35 to 50 PPM – ONE Series of four beeps every 30 seconds
  • “High” – ONE Series of four beeps every 20 Seconds

Hush / Silence Feature:

  • 10 PPM – 24 hours
  • 25 PPM – 60 minutes
  • 35 PPM – 30 minutes
  • 50 PPM – 15 minutes
  • 70 PPM – 4 minutes

Fail-Safe and End-Of-Life Warning

An extensive fail-safe design monitors the sensor, electronics and battery. Any detected failure results in a single chirp of the audible alarm and a single flash of the red LED once a minute, with the error condition indicated on the LCD display. Possible indications are:

  • BAT for low-battery
  • ERR for a failure of the electronics
  • SENSOR END for a sensor failure or end-of-life

Recommended Actions for CO Exposure
Getting an early warning on the presence of carbon monoxide is only half the battle, the other half is knowing what to do about it:

“One of the reasons I recommend our low level reading carbon monoxide sensor is the unique environment of an airplane. A pilot needs to know that CO is present at low levels before they reach dangerously high levels not only because your cannot pull off the side of the road but the added effect of hypoxia increases the body’s sensitivity to CO.

I recommend that any reading of 10 PPM that last for more than a few minutes needs to be addressed. This may be a small crack in an exhaust that may enlarge to a dangerous size. If the CO reading is rapidly rising, measures should be taken to arrest the trend by opening fresh air vents, closing heat vents, and going to lean of peak. If the level reaches 35 PPM, an emergency landing is appropriate and the use of oxygen for the pilot is prudent until the aircraft is safe on the ground. The aircraft should not be flown again until the source is identified.” — Dr. Brent Blue

It’s also important to know what actions to take when CO is present outside the cockpit. The table below provides guidelines for actions you should take at various CO levels when the CO Experts is used in a Residential / Industrial setting.

DISPLAY SHOWS 7 PPM & Up No Action Required
DISPLAY SHOWS 7 PPM to 24 PPM Call your HVAC service
DISPLAY SHOWS 25 PPM to 34 PPM Open windows & call HVAC service
DISPLAY SHOWS 35 ppm to 49 ppm Immediately open doors and windows; call your HVAC Service Company; watch your monitor closely. If CO Level continues to rise, Call 911 and EXIT the building.
DISPLAY SHOWS 50 or HIGHER Exit building or area at once; call 911 and HVAC Service from your cell phone or another location.  DO NOT re-enter home or building until you are told by professionals that it is safe.

Aviation Consumer tested a previous CO Experts model and rated it a Top Value for accurate, low-level CO readings:

“The CO Experts Model 1070 consistently alarmed according to its manufacturers specs, which are in line with how we expect a cockpit CO detector to function.”

*All fires produce CO. The level of CO present will exceed 7PPM very, very quickly, while the fire is in the incipient stage, often while still invisible to the human eye. This monitor will detect the presence of CO at 7PPM and will alarm far faster than any other product ever offered for residential detection.

The CO Experts operation temperature is -20 to 40C. The manufacturer does not recommend storing the unit in the aircraft. The owners manual specifically states the unit should not be stored outdoors or in any unheated area where temperatures may drop below -10C, or above 40C.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON STORAGE:

We recommend that any CO detector (including the CO Experts & Pocket CO models we sell) should not be left for any extended period of time in aircraft that are not hangared or vehicles that are not garaged. The interior temperatures of closed aircraft or motor vehicles left out in the sun can easily reach 120°F or more, and such temperatures can result in accelerated evaporation of the electrolyte in electrochemical CO sensors and premature failure of the detector. A few days now and then is no problem, but if the aircraft or vehicle is to be stored out of doors for a week or more, the detector should be removed and kept in a more temperate location. Because of its larger-capacity sensor, the CO Experts ULTRA can tolerate more abuse than most CO detectors, but ultimately its sensor life will be shortened by prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Cold temperatures generally have no adverse effect on these units.
